PrehistoricPotato: A perfect dish for someone with iron deficiency.
Letting it cool in the oven makes it incredibly tender.
Princeofall: Cast iron? I’ll see you on the front page!
Iusedtobeonimgur: Do you think the recipe would improve if I added shredded cheese on top ?
Fractalkin: What’s the point of the baking with aluminium foil?
Edit: catching dripping oil makes sense. Thanks guys.
Dessertcrazy: I use flax oil, 500 degrees, repeat the seasoning step 5X. That will give you a perfect season on the pan.
TheFAPnetwork: The real question is, how does it taste tho?
zee-bra: I just got a cast iron skillet for christmas. How do you recomend looking after it so it doesnt get to this rusty stage?
peterpanisavampire: /r/castiron for more tips.
holfwaileyy: What dressing do you recommend I use when eating cast iron cookware

anotherkeebler: I think upside-down is the bit I was missing. Every time I’ve tried this I wind up with oil pooling in one corner of the pan and forming a gunkball.
PM-me-Gophers: So… just clean it? Who’d‘ve thunk it.
irish-link: Not that long ago there was an awesome gif of translucent gel cakes and how they were made. Everyone and their mother was up in arms on this sub because it was not a recipe and now with a cast iron restore process everyone is like “woohoo this is great!”
The only comment regarding the rules was downvotes to hell. I don’t care either way, I am just saying at least be consistent with your attitude towards gifs.
TheBlackTempestHaar: Does safflower oil work?
johndislikesgoats: If you need to use foil, then you used too much oil.
DrDraek: I just got my first cast iron skillet for christmas. 12″, looks just like this one. Definitely worth the investment for anyone who’s still burning through shitty nonstick pans from cheap department stores on a yearly basis.
JiminyTriscuit: Can it still deflect bullets though?
Jeenyus6: Instead of having to sit there and scrub, could I sand blast it instead? Seems like that should work without harming it?
N3koChan: That the most useful gif in this sub.
zeroscout: Scour not scrub. Wouldn’t step one be scouring. Isn’t that the name of the action of rubbing something with steal wool?
TaterNubbz: Tip: You can use a balled up piece of aluminum foil to scrub if you don’t have anything handy to scrub it with.
aiyshia: I don’t even own a cast iron pan why did i sit here and watch this whole thing
riddick32: I’ve never used soap, always was told “never use soap for cast iron”. Is that wrong?
greatkingrat: Choose your oil carefully, smoking point is still a factor here. Personally I’ve found avocado oil to be the best.
TheMarlBroMan: Nice ad spot Lodge… r/hailcorporate
krankie: Just tried this recipe. Tasted like soap and now I have tetanus. Gonna pass on this one next time.
22051777: Throw it out and buy a la creuset enamel coated cast iron. Source: I have 3 lodge pans and a la creuset pan. Lodge pans are all messed up with rust. la creuset is both my favorite pan to use and easiest pan to maintain.
vonchogg: Iron is forever? Iron within, iron without.
Oafus: 1. Remove rust.
2. Re-season
DontHashMe: why didnt u pour the cooking oil in one of those fancy cups i see on every gif xd
bigchicago04: What should you do after each use?
753UDKM: Was that steel wool or something else?
geolocution: Cut a potato in half. Pour generous salt on the pan. Scrub with the potato’s exposed inside part. There is just enough moisture to help pick up the rust. Works like a charm. Rinse/repeat, then go for the oil.
krowten68: What is dead may never die.
The_Invader_Kilz: Iron:
What is dead may never die.
halica84: I have a pan that is in need of this, but I’ve been putting off looking up how to do it. You just conveniently helped me out. Thanks!
Admiral_Woonsocket: A fun little Christmas twist to take the edge of another hunger-filled holiday at the orphanage.
iaan: How is using cast iron cookware on the modern electric owens (just standard, non-induction)?
federalist4: I’ve been meaning to do this for a few months now and literally started the process 25 minutes ago and then saw this gif. I find humor in that.
hpliferaft: What if it’s pitted though? I inherited a cast iron pan from an old roommate and no amount of care seems to help this thing.
coolguynovape: add sald and pepper in the end for seasoning
,
noel926: What’s the point of the aluminum foil on the bottom rack? Oil drip?
bongo1138: Maybe I’m dumb, but how does I’ve clean this after cooking?
Probably_Pretentious: Ah yes, the famous SWDOB method. Truly timeless.
offenderWILLbeBANNED: The very very best way to season cast iron is to use flaxseed oil – dry oil.
ThePiracyPolicy: What is dead may never die
Red_Iine: The gif doesn’t show the sheer elbow grease required to get all that rust off
goNe-Deep: I don’t know if anyone will answer this question, but I’ve got a couple of 5-foot cast-iron woks that’s used twice a year to cook dishes during Eid celebrations..
How do I bake those babies, bearing in mind that I don’t have an oven big enough to jam one in? 😊
