In Germany there is something like jugoslavian apple cake, but didn’t find an english recipe.
It’s a sponge cake topped with apple pudding made out of cut apples, apple juice and vanilla flavoured pudding powder (in case you can’t buy it where you live, it is manly starch to thicken it up). The apple juice is the replacement of the milk you normally use, but take a bit less of it because the acidity inhibits the thickening.
Let it cool and thicken for a few hours and serve or top with whipped cream.
Cinnamon, winter spices or any dried fruits go well with it and you can add whatever you like to the apple juice or just enjoy it as a refreshing summer cake 🙂

Cider, hard and children’s. Then syrup from the cider.
She_Who_Loves_Horror: We make a side dish (usually for thanksgiving) called Squash & Apple casserole.
You’ll need about 6 apples, 1 butternut squash, about 1 & 1/2 cups of brown sugar, and one stick of butter.
1. Core, peel, and slice the apples.
2. Peel, de-seed, and cut the squash into chunks.
Tip: I would recommend microwaving the squash for about 5-7 minutes, it makes it about 1000 times easier to peel and cut.
3. Mix the apple slices, squash pieces, and about a cup of the brown sugar in a bowl.
4. Layer the apple and squash in a baking pan.
Tip: We use a 9X13 because the casserole is fucking delicious and we need lots of it.
5. Sprinkle the top with the rest of the brown sugar.
6. Slice up the butter and glop it around the top.
7. Bake for about 40-45 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

Have you ever tried a Waldorf Salad?
Crisp chopped apple, golden raisins, a little thinly sliced celery, tossed in mayonnaise (i add a little lime or lemon juice for a kick), and serve over lettuce if you must, but we just chomp right down minus the greenery.
Some people add nuts, but that’s up to your tastes 🙂 If you can get your head around the simultaneous chewy/crunchy/tart/sweet thing, this is a knockout!

Apple butter. Yes.

I made [this German Apple cake] after my neighbor brought me a bunch of apples.
I added a streusel topping (oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, a little flour, and cold butter). It was cricket *amazing!* I meant to bring it to work but we ended up eating almost all of it.

I make a Brie and apple mini tarts. It’s pretty simple if you buy the pre made mini Fillo shells, put a small cube of Brie inside and a homemade apple compote on top of the Brie , bake until the Brie is melted and enjoy warm. My dad likes when I use sharp cheddar instead of Brie so that’s also an option. You can use a granola crumble or strusel on top if you enjoy that as well.

Homemade hard cider!

Fry the tortilla in a frying pan that’s been buttered. One side done, take it out. On non fried side, put small amounts of the above ingredients, except use a little extra chocolate & brown sugar. Throw it in microwave for a minute melting everything, & enjoy.

2 1/2 tablespoons (20 grams) King Arthur’s Measure for Measure Gluten Free Flour

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 finely chopped Granny Smith apples
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, mix together the eggs, oil, pure Canadian maple syrup, and vanilla.

Add the dry mix to the wet and mix just until combined.

Gently fold in the apples.

Pour into cast iron skillet, I used a 8” Lodge (I think?).

Bake for ~30 minutes until done.
Directions for muffins
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin pan with 8 muffin liners.
-
Follow above directions up to pouring the batter.
-
Divide the batter evenly among the liners, filling them almost full, and bake for 23-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
-
Let the muffins cool for 5 minutes in the pan and then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Store in an air-tight container at room temperature.

I once made a recipe where you bake apples, onions, and beets all together. Apples and beets go very well together in a lot of different ways. There’s also a Swiss dish which is basically fancy macaroni, called Äplermagronen or Swiss Alpine Macaroni, which is basically pasta, cheese, potato, onion, and applesauce. Trust me, it’s good comfort food.
You can make all kinds of salad with apples too. Just wanted to give a few more savory options!
__________
Fried apples with pecans. I make it all the time in the fall and serve it with pancakes. Everyone usually skips the syrup and just uses the apples as a topping. Melt 1/4 cup margarine in skillet with 1/2 cup brown sugar and cinnamon to taste. Add about 4 sliced apples to pan and let simmer until tender. Sprinkle approximately 2 Tablespoons flour and stir slowly into apples while continuing to simmer until thickened. Add about 1 cup apple juice or cider and stir to combine. Top with pecans and serve. FYI – I never measure when I make this, so measurements are approximations. If too thick, thin with more cider/juice.
__________
So you finely dice one apple and a third of a regular sized onion. Caramelize the onions with apple juice this should reduce the juice quite a bit. Add two eggs and scramble them together while you mix in the apple dices and some of your favorite apple enhancing spices like cinnamon, clove, etc add some mozzarella cheese and enjoy

I actually like some recipes by Marcus Samuelsson. Like for example this [apple compote]) for pancakes. It will only set you back about two-three apples though, but give it a try and spice up your weekend breakfast need week.
Another thing that’s kind of nice is frying up some sliced apples with red cabbage, sprinkling salt and balsamic vinegar, adding some crushed nuts and pomegranate and rocket/arugula. Just make sure you fry the cabbage enough. I don’t like red cabbage, but this combination is great (the kind of bitter of cabbage, peppery rocket, sweet apple and salty vinegar marries well). Use it for dinner along with something like sausage or just as a side salad. Super healthy and filling.
__________
Duck and apples 🍎 or Pork and Apples 🍏
You can roast it or prepare it in a slow cooker, scrumptious! If you’re looking for more savory recipes with apples and other fruit, I’d recommend the cookbook “Fruit” by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, it’s perfect for orchard harvest season.
__________
Buy some frozen pastry dough. Usually comes in 6 inch squares. Core and peel apple, place apple on dough. Add butter and brown sugar. Wrap dough around it. Bake (I don’t really have a temp or time, but 350 for 20 minutes should be enough? Basically once the dough is golden brown, you should be good to go). Serve with a scoop of ice cream if you want, but excellent on its own.
It’s honestly like a super simple apple pie.
__________

One of our favorite sides is Yams and Apples. Cook yams to soften, or used canned. Add chopped apples, sweetener of choice, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped pecans and a tablespoon of corn starch. Stir and put in casserole dish. Bake at 375 F for 40 minutes. Can sprinkle more pecans on top if you want.
I fill baked acorn squash halves with any leftovers and bake for another 30 minutes or put raw acorn squash in crockpot with yam filling on high for 5-6 hours. My sister adds m8ni marshmallows, but I find that too sweet.
