YouBuyMeOrangeJuice: Definitely expected this to be savoury and not sweet. But it still looks delicious!
scotch_on_rocks: Is anyone else glad they clarified that was butter?
I_let_you_wind: What’s the point of spiraling them?
FADM_Crunch: That’s so much clove!
chuffaluffigus: Why does everyone try to turn delicious, healthy sweet potatoes into candy with piles of brown sugar?
abernie91: Thought this was going to be a whole30 recipe when I saw the clarified butter, but then brown sug – and I was like NOPE!
un_imaginative: How do you stab a sweet potato through like that? I need a sword just to cut them into fries
serenenaynay: There has got to be a safer way to cut this. I’m a hand therapist and the shown technique makes me cringe
TheLadyEve: Recipe from: [So Yummy](https://soyummy.co/recipe/sweet-potato-spiral/)
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 tbsp Cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp Nutmeg
Preheat oven to 425°F
After cutting the ends of a long sweet potato, shove a skewer down the middle. Slightly cut the sweet potato in a downward spiral fashion without completely slicing through it. Delicately spread the potato across the skewer. Use pastry brush to spread clarified butter all over.
In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 tbsp of cinnamon, 1 tsp of ground cloves and 1 tsp nutmeg. Powder the mixture all over the sweet potato.
Place coated potatoes in the oven for 25-35 minutes. After baking, add additional brown sugar, mint to your liking and enjoy.
**My own notes:** If you’re not a fan of the peels, no worries, just peel it before you skewer it.
If you’re like me, you might not like too much sugar on your sweet potatoes—no worries. Cut down the brown sugar and try a different flavor profile—I really like to use a curry spice blend or a jerk spice blend, for example. You can also try adding some fresh orange zest. There are lots of directions you can go with this.
Make sure your knife is **properly sharpened**. You shouldn’t try to do this spiral potato business with a dull knife or you could hurt yourself.
Bieneke: I feel like this would be better in an airfryer
Urabutbl: Every time I see an American recipe with something sweet, I go “Mmmm, that looks soooooo yummy!”, and then they add another pound of sugar and ruin it.
nay2d2: If you can actually cut a raw potato like that good for you. I tried and it’s damn near impossible.
Majil229: Sweet potatoes are already sweet, don’t cover them in more sweet 😛
Sado_13: While it was a sweet spiral, I think that’s a yam
rodie9: I like these gif recipes but sweet potato is already sweet. Hence the name. And then you add sugar etc!! What’s wrong with you!?!?! Lol
No wonder world population is getting fatter.
Dr_Crow_Dick: I hate sweet potato..
