Bonus: it’s across the street from the site of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre so you get a slice of pizza and history.

*Prep 15 min, Cook 25 min, Ready 40 min*
**Ingredients**
* 1 tbsp olive oil
* 1⁄2 tsp fresh chili pepper, minced
* 1 can (14.1 oz) diced tomatoes
* 1⁄2 bell pepper, chopped
* 1⁄4 tsp dried oregano
* 1 sausage, cooked
* 1 tsp garlic, minced
* 2 fresh basil leaves, torn or chopped
* 1⁄4 tsp kosher salt
* 1⁄4 tsp black pepper
* 5 oz mozzarella cheese, sliced
* 1 1⁄2 oz parmesan cheese, shredded, divided
* 7 oz pizza dough
* 1 egg yolk, beaten
**Instructions**
1 Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chili pepper and saute for about a minute. Add tomatoes, bell pepper, oregano, sausage, garlic, basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir and simmer for at least 5-7 minutes. Set aside.
2 Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Grease the inside and a few inches around the top of the outside of a large bowl with olive oil.
3 Line the inside of the prepared bowl with a single layer of mozzarella cheese slices. Sprinkle with 1/2 ounce parmesan cheese. Pour in sauce. Sprinkle with remaining 1 ounce parmesan cheese. Cover the bowl with pizza dough, leaving about 1 inch hanging over the edges. Gently press along the side of the bowl to seal in the filling. Brush with beaten egg yolk. Place the bowl on a baking sheet.
4 Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes. Carefully invert the bowl onto a serving plate. Run a knife around the edge of the bowl, if necessary, to loosen the crust and remove the bowl.

Cymen90: What is the point of this recipe when you just take pizza dough from the store? And the one thing that IS shown, the sauce, is all wrong. Wrong order of ingredients and too little flavour. Also, the cheese in the bowl will not even get crisp, only bathed in fat that is trying to escape. At that point, what is the point of this whole gimmick? Just make a pizza.

I remember, as a naive teenager, I used to bike it over there, having saved up to the last cent, and no I wasn’t taught about tipping then. But, I would go there on my bike and order their deep dish pizza, and after acquiring this treasure, I would sit outside the curb and dug in to the most delicious treasure I had just aquired… haven’t found a deep dish pizza since then…
